Tree branch causes paralysis in a woman - she gets $500,000

A woman was walking along North Bridge Road on 25 August 2008 when branches from a tree growing in St. Andrew’s Cathedral fell on her body. She was admitted to the Singapore General Hospital where she had to go through multiple intensive operations, but her injuries ultimately left her paralyzed.

Her lawyer, N. Srinivasan from Shengkai International Law Firm successfully claimed against the Cathedral insurers for a sum of $500,000.00.

Since the incident, the Cathedral has promised to take steps to inspect and maintain the trees growing on their compound regularly.
